Report Writer – Point and click to automatically generate a report of any kind.

February 26th, 2012
by admin

We are pleased to announce our latest product for Mac and iPad – Report Writer. By clicking on appropriate comment fields (check boxes), Report Writer compiles pre-written blocks of text into one cohesive document. Each pre-written block of text (comment) can come in six unique varieties. Each tab (screen) corresponds to a new paragraph in the final document.

Begin by filling Report Writer’s database with custom text that suits your needs. Then, move from tab to tab and click on the appropriate comments to build your document. With up to six unique varieties of every comment to choose from, it is easy to write a custom report that is specific, comprehensive, and targeted to your needs. The final document is saved as an MS Word (.doc) file and can be emailed, saved, or printed.

The first and last paragraphs are optional free-write paragraphs where you have the ability to customize the report by manually typing any text you choose. The last tab provides a place for your custom signature, which will appear at the bottom of your report.

Countless professions require reports and paperwork to be written and filed on a routine basis. These reports often follow a standard template, with very similar wording, and only the content that varies from one situation to the next. Inspectors, law enforcement officers, technicians, evaluators, doctors, lawyers, managers, consultants, teachers, and many other business professionals spend countless hours manually typing reports. With Report Writer, a customized report can be created by simply clicking on appropriate check boxes.

Additional Features:

1. Import file and project lists.
2. Access files from a simple drop-down menu.
3. Export your custom comment database for editing, sharing, and archival
4. Import your custom comment database from a simple .csv file (Excel or Pages).
5. Use the same comment database for Report Writer Mac and Report Writer iPad.
4. Edit all tab, column, and comment labels.
5. Add additional comments to any column on any tab.
6. Print reports directly from the “List” screen.

Report Writer 1.0 Mac

Example of Use:

A building inspector must inspect a residential home and generate a report for his clients. The inspector edits Report Writer’s seven interior tabs to read as follows: Roofing, Structure, Plumbing, Electrical, Appliances, Foundation, and Recommendations. The inspector then modifies the comments on each page for the various issues he may encounter. On the “Roof” tab, for example, he may label one comment “Roof Covering.” He will then choose between the six versions of that comment to insert the text “The roof is covered with 3-tab fiberglass shingles.” His next comment may be labeled “Roof Condition,” and he may choose between the six varieties of that comment to insert the text “The roof covering is quite old with missing shingles, potential leaks, and several prior tar patches.” The inspector will then move through the remaining tabs and select comments that appropriately describe the condition of the residence. When he has finished his inspection, he presses “Save / New” and Report Writer compiles the comments he has selected into one comprehensive report (MS Word .doc). The comments he has chosen on each tab are placed in separate paragraphs, and any text he has manually typed on the “Opening Free Write” and “Closing Free Write” tabs will appear as the opening and closing paragraphs of the report respectively. The inspector can then either email, export, save, or print the report.

How To Edit the Report Writer CSV Database

February 21st, 2012
by admin

**A new version of Report Writer is in the final stages of production. The database will be entirely redesigned for easier use. Stay tuned***

The following image illustrates the Minimum Requirements of the Report Writer comment database. The image is color coded to show the necessary arrangement and structure of the database.

This database is the absolute minimum that Report Writer will recognize. It includes only one comment under each category / column on the Report Writer interface.

If you were to upload this actual CSV database (found below), the Report Writer interface would appear like the following image:

Report Writer Database Organization & Editing

  1. Each comment in Report Writer has two horizontal entries in the database, one for “Prewritten” and one for “Custom” comments. These pairs are designated with grey or white coloring in the database image above.
  2. If you make a change to columns A, H, or I for one comment pair (i.e. “Prewritten”or “Custom”), then you must make the same change to its partner entry. In other words, if you change a tab name, column name, or comment label, you must make that same change for both the “Prewritten” and “Custom” entries for that comment in the database.
  3. Columns C, D, and E are not editable! They must retain the default wording. Essay Grader uses these three columns to find its way–like landmarks or reference points.
  4. No changes can be made to the order of the vertical columns within the database file.
  5. No vertical columns can be added or deleted within the database file.
  6. Horizontally, the database can be sorted and ordered in any way you choose.
  7. Beneath each column / category on the Report Writer interface, comments will we listed in the same order as they appear within the database.
  8. All column / category comments can be deleted except one. Within the database, each column / category must retain at least one comment (as illustrated in the Report Writer interface image above).
  9. The columns / categories on the Report Writer interface cannot be deleted. The default columns and column locations on the Report Writer interface are mandatory and cannot be changed. Report Writer is hard coded for a designated number of columns on each page. Therefore, columns cannot be deleted or moved to a new location on the Report Writer interface. Within the database, take care to leave at least one comment for each default column on the Report Writer interface.
  10. Do not use symbols or special characters in your custom comment database. Report Writer only recognizes ANCII characters.
  11. The spreadsheet must be saved in the .CSV (Comma Separated Values) format.

Download various versions and organizations of the Report Writer CSV database below. Please note that the “Minimum Structure Labeled & Coded” file is an Excel (XLXS) spreadsheet and cannot be uploaded to Report Writer. It is for visual demonstration purposes only.

Clean Your System!!! (Mac Users)

December 31st, 2011
by admin

Yes, Macs are wonderful, but they–like all other computers–collect junk. In order for your system to run properly, you need to preform regular maintenance. This is just like changing the oil in your car. Many people contact me with that they think are Essay Grader problems, but it just turns out that their computers are clogged up with unnecessary files.

Download the free program Onyx. Use the program to clean your system. Getting rid of old files does wonders! Clean everything, then run the scripts. Also rebuild “launch services” and “dyld’s shared cache” under “Maintenance.” Your system will run much faster and better.

Make sure you have all of your passwords written down and your important files backed up.

Essay Grader Quitting Unexpectedly?

December 31st, 2011
by admin

First, examine your database. If your database seems to be formatted properly. Just make sure it does not contain any special characters, including curly quotation marks, curly apostrophes, superscript, and dashes pasted from Word. What edits have you made? Is Essay Grader quitting on a certain comment. Check the format of that comment.

Export all completed files now. Save them in a directory of their own. Make sure you do not have any special characters in any names or assignment names you are using–letters and numbers only.

Do not duplicate names. For every grading session, you can only have one “John Smith.”

Also, download the free program Onyx. Use the program to clean your system. Getting rid of old files does wonders! Clean everything, then run the scripts. Also rebuild “launch services” and “dyld’s shared cache” under “Maintenance.” Your system will run much faster and better.

Then, if Essay Grader continues to quit, contact us, and we will troubleshoot further.
